What is Vaser Liposuction?

Body Contouring

What does it do?

Liposuction Is a cosmetic surgery that gets rid of fat under the skin. Vaser Liposuction is a type of liposuction surgery that is different from traditional lipo that uses ultrasound energy, breaks up and loosens the fat cells to allow for easier removal of the fat. VASER literally gets its name from Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, a device that sends energy pulses through the probe to liquify fat cells.

This technology spares surrounding tissues and enables the liposuction surgeon to make more precise fat removal. The procedure is minimally invasive with very small incisions of less than 5mm which makes it a great option for shaping, firming and creating better contours to produce an aesthetic look. Vaser liposuction harnesses ultrasound energy to dissolve and suction away fat, providing a more refined result than traditional lipo requisites.

Several benefits include:

  • Precision targeting
  • Minimally invasive
  • Less risks
  • Effective fat removal
  • Faster recovery

Traditional Liposuction vs Vaser Liposuction

Traditional Liposuction

  • Involves more physical motion to extract fat.
  • No specific technology, manual fat extraction is used.
  • Used for elimination of larger amounts of fats.
  • Approximately 6 weeks.
  • Because of more physical motion, there is additional tissue damage.
  • Bigger incisions which can result in more visible scars.
  • Typically longer sessions.
  • Expect more discomfort and pain during and after the surgery.

Vaser Liposuction

  • Treatment uses a non-invasive method to break down fat.
  • Ultrasound (VASER: Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance)
  • Treats smaller fat pockets, best for local contouring.
  • Faster healing time, generally in 1 to 2 weeks
  • No tissue damage. Fat cells are targeted by ultrasound.
  • Minimal scarring with small incisions (5mm or less).
  • Generally shorter sessions.
  • Less discomfort, because it is a minimally invasive procedure.

The procedure
Precision Fat Sculpting
How does Vaser Liposuction work?

Vaser is ideal for body sculpting because it effectively removes fat with precision and care to the surrounding tissues. It utilises heat to destroy the fat cells and in addition somewhat fixes the skin. In recent years, there have been tudies that suggest Vaser liposuction surgery can improve insulin sensitivity demonstrating possible metabolic advantages.

General anaesthesia or conscious sedation is provided to you during the procedure. The substance used is a combination of saline and a local anaesthetic that gets injected into the treatment area. An ultrasonic probe, which penetrates through a small incision to rupture the fat cells A cannula (a thin tube) is inserted and used to continue this process of fat suctioning along with removing most of the fluid. A small quantity of this fluid containing lidocaine, epinephrine and saline will help you numb with post procedure pain which your body will need during the next few days.

Quick Body Contouring
How long does Vaser Liposuction take?

It usually lasts around two hours and varies depending on the area to be treated and the amount of fat extracted. There is no need for the patient to stay in hospital after a Vaser lipo procedure and most patients will be able to leave straight away.

Moderate Recovery Comfort
How painful is Vaser liposuction surgery?

Pain will depend on the specific individual. Although from a recovery standpoint, most experience moderate soreness and discomfort for the first few weeks.

Safe Fat Reduction
How many litres of fat can be removed with Vaser Lipo?

Body percentage and the treatment area are factors in consideration in removing fats. In a general sense, we say you should not lose more than 3 to 5 litres or 4 to 5% of your body weight. Bigger fat reduction may require more sessions.

Comprehensive Body Sculpting
Which areas of the body can VASER liposuction target?

Vaser liposuction can target almost every area. This is an effective technique for reversing fatty deposits that cannot be eliminated through diet or exercise.

The abdomen, neck, arms. male chest, back, flanks, upper arms, thighs, knees, ankles, and buttocks are the commonly treated areas of Vaser. For the abdomen, it helps with problems such as pregnancy belly or scars from C-section. It also helps with the neck and chin contouring, localised excess fat in male arms as well as gynecomastia. This also works wonders on the back, thighs, and even those knees and ankles with stubborn fat deposits. It helps to give a precise and safe method of body contouring with very less scarring, which results in an outstanding outcome.

Am I suitable
Is Vaser Liposuction good for me?
  • The ideal candidate for Vaser liposuction is an individual who follows a healthy lifestyle but cannot get rid of the subcutaneous fat using diet and exercise. This type of fat, which sometimes disrupts proportions, can be resistant to changes. You should be at your ideal weight as taking large volumes of fat out in one session could cause complications. If you have more than 45 pounds to lose, focus on weight loss first or seek out other treatments.
  • Your skin should be in top shape, this means that it has some elasticity so as not to sag. It also helps if you have some muscle tone. Non-smoker are preferred because smoking can decrease the flow of blood and slow healing which would increase complications. Good general health matters, and you should inform your cosmetic surgeon if there are any medical conditions. Before taking the leap, a consultation with your surgeon can help you understand what you are going to have and probably put some of those concerns at ease.
The risks
Can a risk be prevented?
  • As with any surgical procedure, Vaser liposuction does have risks associated with it, but a vast majority of the patients do recover without facing risks. Complications should be discussed with your plastic surgeon in as much detail. Although uncommon, allergic reactions are occasionally encountered. Bleeding can happen but is uncommon and your surgeon will instruct you to avoid specific medications like aspirin which thin the blood so that this risk is reduced.
  • The loss of skin sensation is generally temporary and should resolve spontaneously; however, in some cases this may not fully recover. Chronic pain is unusual but possible, and infections are rare; if an infection occurred it might need to be treated with antibiotics or some other form of further surgery. There are even some scars that will show up despite the use of small incisions, and in a few cases more surgery is needed to repair unsightly scarring. Life threatening serious complications such as fat embolism syndrome are very unusual but necessitate an immediate hospital visit. Finally, although seromas are not as common with Vaser liposuction procedures vs other methods a drain may need to be placed.
