What is a Scalp Micropigmentation?

Cosmetic Tattoo

Baldness solution

By applying hundreds to thousands of tiny dots on the scalp, scalp micropigmentation gives the appearance of active hair follicles with tiny dots on the scalp, very similar to a tattoo. Similar to the natural hairline, this process injects dyed pigment into the dermis with a special technique.

It may look similar to the tattooing process, but SMP is actually a specialist training-based method. Pigments are then blended to find the perfect match for your skin tone, and complete lines are drawn on every tiny hair. Unlike microblading, where layers of black pigments are just dotted and layered above, creating the illusion of natural shadows and giving you depth and definition,.

A talented SMP professional sharpens these dots to resemble natural follicles and blends flawlessly with the width of the skin surrounding them. This is a great way to benefit those who are or have suffered from hair loss from cancer, alopecia, or thinning of their own natural hair. You can experiment with your hairstyle because you got bald in women and men.

Several benefits include:

  • Natural appearance
  • Long-lasting results
  • Non-surgical solutions
  • Quick recovery
  • Customisable

The many types

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disorder that attacks hair follicles, resulting in unpredictable, patchy, and non-scarring loss of scalp hair. In certain cases, hair may regrow; in others, there might be permanent loss of the hair.

Chemotherapy-Related Hair Loss

Since chemotherapy destroys rapidly dividing cancer cells, it can kill hair roots and does not stimulate hair growth. Some treatments may not even cause hairloss,s but if they do, it is usually just temporary.

Female Pattern Hair Loss

Most common in women over 40 years old, menopausal, or with a history of hair loss in the family, hair loss is present in more than 50% of the cases.

Male Pattern Hair Loss

The most common type of hair loss in men occurs in this pattern, which usually appears first on the top or forehead.

Scars or Birthmarks on the Scalp

These may be seen in the hair. Scalp micropigmentation can be successfully applied to cover these scars.

Consultation Preparation Surgery Recovery
1
Consultation

It is preferable to begin with a consultation in which expectations regarding the procedure, necessary preparations, and actions to be taken prior to, during, and following the surgery are established.

2
Preparation

We are now focused on all the preparations that must be taken. Making sure everything will go along to plan financially, emotionally, and physically before the procedure begins.

3
Surgery

During the treatment, incisions are made in front of the ears and the hairline to access the underlying facial muscles and tissues. The excess skin is then carefully removed, leading to a smoother, more youthful form.

4
Recovery

Although recovery times may differ from person to person, most patients are back to their regular activities in two weeks or less.

The procedure
Gradual, Full Coverage
How long does scalp micropigmentation take?

Each session of a scalp micropigmentation treatment can take anywhere from 1 to 5 hours. Most patients require three treatments to get the best possible result, with the first session typically being longer. Follow-ups are typically around every 10 to 20 days, and all our clients usually need somewhere between 3 and 5 sessions in total to cover the entire treatment process.

The number of sessions required and time for the treatment may vary according to the treatment size, complexity of each case, and your medical background.

Immediate Visible Result
How long do the results last?

For many years after your treatment has been completed, the colour of the scalp micropigmentation should remain vibrant. With time, you will see lightness in pigment, not colour. If this happens, a quick “touch-up” will return the colour and maintain that lasting effect. How many sessions and touch-ups are necessary will vary depending on the technique added.

For those who want something more permanent, a pigment that is placed deeper into the dermis layer of skin to give you long-lasting results, and usually with little desire for regular maintenance, you can opt for the ‘close shave’ type. Or, if you would rather want something less permanent or are worried about hair colour fading over time, a tattoo-like surface method similar to microblading can be tattooed. Typically, it is visible for 3 years with this method.

Works For All Hair Colors
Does scalp micropigmentation work for all hair colours?

Highly experienced aestheticians work meticulously to choose the perfect pigmentation based on your natural or desired hair colour, which makes it easier for you or near impossible to identify areas where and how pigmented hairs have been added. It can be used across all hair colours as well, even grey. Scalp micropigmentation complements the work we have done in recolouring your scalp so that it appears consistent with its original colour.

Low-Pain, High-Gain
Is scalp micropigmentation painful?

This is basically a tattoo, but it’s not a traditional tattoo, and those who have had the treatment are aware that, as far as pain goes, one person’s tolerance for it can be different from another. It is slightly irritating for some individuals, and others would feel mild pain. A pain score of 1 to 4 is perceived by each individual with subjective sensibility. Scalp micropigmentation is not the normal tattoo technique of going two layers into the dermis with deep-down scraping.

The amount of pain that you experience during scalp micropigmentation is dependent on many variables. These are your pain tolerance, the type of scalp to be treated, and the condition of your scalp. Again, the level of discomfort can be influenced by anxiety regarding the procedure. In short, the pain caused by SMP is pretty easy to cope with as compared to traditional tattoos, and most of the clients do not really have an issue.

Customised For Natural Look
Can SMP be customised for individual needs?

Scalp micropigmentation is individually tailored to each patient’s needs. It is tailored according to your hair colour, skin tone, hair growth type, and pattern baldness. With these personal inputs, one can achieve a very natural look with SMP that pairs well with their existing hair and overall appearance.

The essentials
What you need to know before the treatment?

  • Whatever hair length you have, you can receive SMP. If you shave, give yourself a great shave right before your visit.
  • Shaving a few days beforehand may reduce the initial shock of having large, dark dots that will fade over time.
  • Start moisturising your scalp three to four times each day for three weeks before the appointment. Any moisturiser will do.
  • Consider what hairstyle you like. Talk it over with your practitioner so that he can tailor an approach specifically for you.

What are the recommended post-operative care?

  • Avoid washing, rubbing, or any kind of contact with your head for at least 3 days after the session.
  • Try to avoid saunas and sweaty activities.
  • You can start washing your head with water only on day 4. On the next day, moisturise your scalp again.
  • Wash your head with a mild face cleanser.
  • Do not sweat heavily, exfoliate, scratch, or expose yourself to the sun for longer periods of time, including tanning booths.
  • In 30 days, you can resume all the usual activities.

What is the long term aftercare and maintenance of SMP?

  • Keep applying sunscreen to your scalp, and use a minimum of SPF 15 on your face.
  • Do not use sunbeds, as they damage the skin and can fade SMP quite rapidly.
  • Avoid the high levels of alcohol found in minoxidil lotions.
  • Apply moisturiser to your scalp at least once a day. Proper moisturising helps maintain the condition of your scalp and enhances the SMP results.

Am I suitable
Is Scalp Micropigmentation good for me?

For various reasons, scalp micropigmentation is an excellent treatment for anyone experiencing hair loss problems. This is perfect for men and women; it heals problems like alopecia, scalp scars, and generic thinning hair. This simple in-office procedure is non-surgical, low-maintenance, and gives a soft, natural appearance with dramatic confidence-boosting results.

The risks
Can a risk be prevented?

Scalp micropigmentation’s possible complications can include infection from any contact with non-sterile equipment, allergic reactions to pigments, the formation of granulomas in individuals prone to cypher-building raised scars, and keloid formations. In addition, although there are a few reports that tattoos or permanent makeup will adversely affect the quality of an MRI scan, If removal of SMP is needed, laser treatment will usually have to be conducted, which can last a few sessions and come with side effects.
