What is a Mons Pubic Lift?

Mons Reduction

Reconstructive Surgery

A mons pubic lift, or monsplasty is a surgical cosmetic procedure that removes excess fatty tissue from the prominent mons pubis, the fatty area above your pubic bone.

Some people consider a mons reduction surgery because many do not like the appearance of the fatty mons pubis and choose a mons lift surgery procedure to correct it and remove excess fat and tissues. Functional problems can also appear where excess fat and tissue hinders cleaning and washing, something that can easily end up turning into an infection. With age or due to a significant weight gain, the tissue and fat located around the mons pubis area may rise, causing sagging skin and adding an excess fat. Some people can be extremely self-conscious about the pads of fat that build up below the bikini line and are often embarrassed as to how it looks.

Several benefits include:

  • Boost self-esteem
  • Improved comfort
  • Improved hygiene
  • Low risk

The many types

Weight Gain

Excess fat collects making the mons pubis to become wider and protrude out.

Weight Loss

The sagging skin on the mons pubis may be more evident and lose its firmness due to hormonal shifts to fluctuations in weight from dieting.

Ageing

The skin elasticity decreases as you age. This can lead to droopy heavy excess skin.

C-Section

A C-section scar may bulge because the excess skin and fat on top of it is tightly held against the tissues beneath it.

Hormones (Estrogen)

Estrogen also influences fat deposition in the mons pubis region, which can result in oversized mons pubis.

Genetics

If a person is genetically predisposed, they are likely to inherit the fat deposition on the same prominent mons pubis as their parents.

The procedure
Mons Lift Transformation
How does a mons lift surgery work?

A mons reduction surgery also known as a mons pubis liposuction improves the appearance and function of the pubic area, It surgically removes excess skin and excess fat. This is performed under a local anaesthesia. The Surgeon will do this by making incisions above the pubic bone to get to the tissue below, and then removes all the fatty tissue and skin in excess of what is required. They may also tighten the deeper muscle layer supporting the fat as part of the procedure. The incisions are then closed using dissolvable stitches.

Results will be noticeable after the swelling goes down over the following months. And the enlarged mons pubis area will appear flatter and will be more aesthetically pleasing. It is also likely to alleviate the associated functional problems caused by the excess tissue. Patients then will undergo follow-up checks to examine the  recovery and their satisfaction.

Long-Lasting Mons Reduction
How long will the result last?

The results of a mons reduction surgery are very gratifying and are long-term. By maintaining a healthy weight, those effects can also turn out to be permanent.

In many cases, patients regain their confidence wearing swimsuits, undergarments and tight-fitting clothes for the first time in years. Sustainable outcomes do require maintenance in terms of reasonably steady weight along with appropriate lifestyle. Results may change over time with pregnancy and the effects of significant weight loss, so these should be discussed with your surgeon at a consultation.

Quick Mons Lift
How long does the procedure take?

On an average, a mons lift surgery lasts 1 to 2 hours, depending on the extensiveness of the operation and whether or not you’re having any other surgeries performed with it like tummy tuck, etc.

Comprehensive Body Contouring
Can mons pubis reduction be combined with other procedures surrounding the pubic bone?

Yes! Many patients opt to have a mons pubis reduction with other cosmetic surgery to create a sleeker, more aesthetically appealing lower body. A pubis reduction surgery can be combined with other procedures such as abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, liposuction for removal of fat surrounding the pubic bone or areas on the lower abdomen, thighs, hips, and more.

When these procedures are performed together, the end result is a much more harmonious and more beautiful combination that can be matched to the needs and goals of the patient.

Long-lasting Results
How long will the result last?

Mons reduction is a permanent solution for an oversized mons pubis or has sagged with age. These results can be permanent if you keep a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle. Over time, significant weight loss or changes in pregnancy can affect the results. It is important to go over these factors with your surgeon in order to appropriately maintain your results.

Am I suitable
Is Mons Pubic Lift good for me?
  • If you have extra tissue or skin on the enlarged mons pubis area that can make cleaning hard, cause rashes or infections, or obstruct urination or sexual intercourse, you might be a good candidate for a mons surgery. You need to be in general good health (i.e., not have heart disease, diabetes, or lung disease), should not smoke, or be willing to stop at least 4 weeks before and up to 4 weeks after the procedure. You need to be realistic too.
  • Both a tummy tuck and mons pubis liposuction do not tighten up your pubic area and they may create the appearance of a lower and fuller mons region, therefore you may be recommended to undergo a mons surgery together.
The risks
Can a risk be prevented?

For young and healthy patients with not much else wrong with them other than extra weight, a mons reduction is generally safe. Possible complications such as normal bleeding for a few days and in the case of excessive bleeding it may require a surgery. While infections are uncommon and can be treated by antibiotics or drainage in case of an abscess formation. An open wound can be managed by dressings or by surgery. Skin necrosis very rarely occurs if the skin does not get enough blood and may require dressings or an operation, this condition is more common in smokers. Fat necrosis, fat which dies and liquifies, can take several weeks to become clinically evident and is commonly seen in smokers and overweight individuals. Treatments include blood thinners and compression stockings for phlebitis, or swelling and inflammation of the walls of a vein in the legs that affects the deep veins and early movement can help prevent it. Scarring can result in raised, pigmented, or painful blood vessels, this usually responds to treatments with cortisone injections or minor surgery.
