The procedure
Personalized Enhancement Options
What do I need to know?

Breast enlargement works by surgically inserting implants or transferring fat to the breast to enhance its size, shape, and fullness. A surgeon usually starts the incision from the armpit, beneath the breast, or around the areola to insert saline or silicone gel.Saline is filled with sterile salt water solution, while Silicone implants are filled with a cohesive gel that closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue. Another type of breast enlargement is fat grafting, where fat from the donor site is injected into the breast. The procedure is customisable based on the patient’s aesthetic desires and goals.

Find Your Ideal Fit
How should I know the correct size of implants or fat transfer for me?

Breast enlargement is a personal choice, the size and shape will depend on the patient’s goals and desired results. There are a few factors that you need to consider such as consulting a qualified surgeon, considering your body type, as well as the surgeon’s recommendation.

Implants have different measurements, usually ranging from 200cc to 800 cc or more. You can try the sizers to help you visualise how they look after the procedure. You can also check other patients before and after photos with the same body type as you, to help you decide on how much implant or fat transfer you may need.

The Key Steps
What can I expect during the treatment?

On the day of your surgery, your breast area will be cleansed to lessen the risk of infections. The anaesthesiologist will start injecting general anaesthesia to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure. Once the anaesthesia take effect your plastic surgeon will start the procedure. The process will depend on your chosen types of treatment.

For breast implant, your surgeon will start the incision in the armpit, under the breast, or around the areola, depending on the choice of implants, your anatomy, or surgeon’s recommendation. A pocket will be created where the saline or silicone breast implants will be placed, which can be positioned between the breast tissue and chest muscle or behind the chest wall muscle. After placing the implants into the target area, the incision will be closed with sutures.

For fat transfer procedure, your doctor will collect excess fat in the donor site such as abdomen, hips, flanks, or thighs. Small incision will be created in the donor region to collect fats using a cannula. After collecting, fat cells will be processed and purified to retain only the healthy cells and removed damage cells and impurities. Healthy cells will then injected into the breast.

After the operation, you will be taken in the recovery room for monitoring. Before your discharge, your surgeon will provide post-operative care guide to ensure proper healing.

Quick, Lasting Enhancement
How long does the process last?

Breast enlargement operations typically last for about 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the surgeon’s procedure and the complexity of the patient’s requirements.

Safety And Comfortability
Is it safe?

Breast implants are considered safe, especially when performed by qualified and well-experienced doctors. Both saline and silicone have undergone extensive testing to ensure their safety and effectiveness. It is also approved by the health authorities. On the other hand, fat transfer to the breast has minimal risk as it uses the patient’s own fat for enhancement.

However, cosmetic surgery comes with potential risks and complications such as capsular contracture, rupture leakage, infection, Breast Implant Illness (BII), and Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA – ALCL).

It is crucial to consult a qualified surgeon to minimize these risks. It is recommended to undergo an MRI or ultrasound 5 to 6 years after having a breast enlargement to ensure your safety. Also, monitor any changes in your breast and consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Comfort-Focused Recovery
Is it hurtful?

You will be under general anaesthesia during the procedure, so you will be in deep sleep; technically, you will not feel any pain. After the procedure, you will feel soreness, tightness, and pressure around the breast area once the anaesthesia wears off. Your doctor will prescribe pain medication to manage these pains. Swelling and bruising are also normal but usually subside after a few days. Some patients may experience numbness or sensitivity around the breast area; it usually subsides after a few months.

Safe, Combined Enhancements
Can I combine other treatments with breast enlargement?

Yes, you can combine other procedures with breast enlargement such as Breast lift, Liposuction, Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Fat transfer, or some non-surgical procedures. However, it is important to consult your trusted surgeon to know what procedures are suited and safe for you.

Long-Lasting Shape Care
How to maintain the good shape of your breasts after enlargement?

Proper implant care, good lifestyle habits, and regular checkups can help maintain the good size and shape of your breasts. There are few things to follow to maintain the best results such as keeping your skin hydrated, maintaining your muscle tone by exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding smoking and alcohol, as well as excessive sun exposure.

Know When To Call
When can I call my doctor?

It is important to monitor your recovery and know when you should call your doctor after your breast enlargement surgery. The following are the signs that you need to communicate with your doctor right away.

  • Severe pain that doesn’t improve with pain medications.
  • Excessive swelling or bruising that doesn’t go away
  • Fever with 38°C temperature
  • Unusual changes in texture or color
  • Fluid leakage in the incision site
  • Hardening or lumps in the breast area might be a sign of capsular contracture
  • Experiencing breast pain
  • Difficulty in breathing
Reversible Enhancement Options
Can the implants or grafted fat be removed?

Yes, both breast implants and grafted fat are possible to remove if needed.

Breast implants can be removed with breast explant surgery. It can be removed if the implants cause complications and health concerns, or even a personal choice. Reshaping or lifting after the removal may be necessary to achieve a natural look.

Fat grafts can be removed using liposuction. However, it is not possible to remove all the injected fats completely, as the body usually absorbs some transferred fat over time.

Am I suitable
Is Breast enlargement good for me?

Factors to consider

The Breast enlargement procedure is ideal for individuals with sagging, elongated, flattened, and asymmetrical breasts, as well as with lost volume. It is also important that you do not smoke, are in good physical health, and have realistic expectations.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, battling with breast cancer, have an abnormal mammogram, with existing infections, and have unrealistic expectations, breast enlargement is not recommended for you.

Most women are qualified for the breast enhancement procedure. However, it is important to be honest with your surgeon upon consultation. This will avoid inconvenience and possible complications.

The risks
Can risks be prevented?

Potential risks

Like any other cosmetic surgery, Breast augmentation surgery can carry the risk of complications.

  • Infection: Infection may occur at the incision sites if the wound is not treated properly.
  • Capsular Contracture: It is the formation of scar tissue around the implants, making the breast feel hard and uneven.
  • Implant Rupture or Leakage: This will cause changes in shape, tenderness, and deflation. Leakage may cause infection if not treated right away.
  • Changes in sensation: Numbness or sensitivity may be experienced after surgery.
  • Asymmetry: Shifting of implants or differences in the natural healing process may result in unevenness.
  • Hematoma: Severe bleeding can occur and should be treated immediately.
  • Blood Clotting: Rarely happens, but needs medical attention immediately.
  • Scarring: Scarring may form around the incision site, but may fade over time.
  • Breastfeeding Challenges: Although many women can still breastfeed without problems, some are having difficulties after the surgery.
  • Breast Implants Illness (BII): Joint pain, fatigue, and headaches were reportedly experienced by some patients, although the reasons are still under study.
  • Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA ALCL): Although not a breast cancer, it is a rare type of lymphoma that needs medical attention.

Consult your surgeon and ask how you can avoid these risks.
