What is a Anal skin tag?

Anal Lump

Why undergo Anal skin tag removal?

Anal skin tags are basically some firm benign overgrowth of skin around anal opening. When the skin rubs together, it is the cause of the condition and therefore it appears more common in people who are overweight, as well as those with haemorrhoids or with specific diseases like Crohn’s disease. Most anal skin tags will be the same colour as your natural skin tone, but in some instances, they may have discoloration and are slightly darker in colour. Although not always needing treatment, they can be uncomfortable or embarrassing and some choose surgical removal as a more comfortable option.

Surgical excision is a safe and effective option for those who wish to have anal skin tag removed. Depending on the size and location of the skin tags and your medical history, the method will differ. One of our medical practitioners would be glad to discuss options and answer any questions regarding the process, so you can make the decision that feels best for your comfort and confidence.

Several benefits include:

  • More comfort
  • Improved hygiene
  • Confidence boost
  • Relief from discomfort

Anal Skin Tags vs Anal Warts

Anal Skin Tags

Commonly developed as a result of stretched skin because of haemorrhoids, skin rub, or inflammation.

Soft, fleshy bumps on the skin around the anus.

Generally, painless but may feel uncomfortable if irritated,

More likely to occur if you have a history of haemorrhoids, are pregnant, or experience frequent irritation of the skin.

Anal Warts

Caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).

Lesions begin tiny, but may later become bigger and extend surrounding the anus or genital area.

Can cause itching, burning, or irritation.

Can be transmitted through direct contact via skin and is associated with HPV infection.

Supportive Skin Care
How does it work?

You will have a consultation to discuss your options and create your treatment plan with our team prior to your treatment. Once you have agreed to the plan we can go ahead to book your appointment. We will remove the excess skin in a local anaesthetic, meaning that the area is numbed before the procedure. After your procedure, your doctor will take you through recovery and what to expect in the weeks to come, and our dedicated aftercare team will be available to support you and answer your questions while you heal.

Quick, Easy Removal
How long does the anal skin tag removal take?

Skin tag removal is a straightforward process that usually takes about 30–40 minutes to complete including a brief consultation. When you finish, you can leave and return to your day immediately.

Safe, Professional Care
Are home remedies effective?

Home removal of anal skin tags can cause pain, infection or scarring. It’s much safer to visit a professional, as they use clean instruments and equipment to carefully and effectively remove skin tags.

Precise, Effective Removal
What methods are used in removing skin tags?

Skin tag removal is a straightforward and speedy process. The doctor may clip it off with small scissors, or remove it other ways with, for example, a laser or with cryotherapy that uses liquid nitrogen.

Managing Pain And Discomfort
Is it painful?

Removal has been performed under local anaesthetic by a colorectal surgeon or a cosmetic surgeon, so it is a painless procedure, however, the recovery can be a little uncomfortable. Post-op instruction will make It easier to recover from the soreness.

Am I suitable
Is Anal Skin Tags Removal good for me?

Anal skin tag removal is an option for healthy patients that may feel insecure about skin tag growth. It is important for all candidates to have realistic expectations about the results and to desire to simply reduce friction or reduce the appearance of the area.

The risks
Can risks be prevented?

There are also risks involved in eliminating anal skin tags, such as pain and swelling (which usually resolves on their own) and a small risk of infection (which can be prevented through sterile practices). During the procedure there may also be some minor bleeding, this is generally managed during the procedure.

Some risks are rare but possible like, if healing takes extended than six weeks, treatment may be required, a non-healing wound recognized as anal fissures. Despite the area being repaired, there is a slight possibility of regrowth, and constipation soon after surgery may present a greater risk of anal fissure.
