Recovery Time After Extensive Rhinoplasty: Personal Experiences Needed

I want to have a rhinoplasty. Most likely, the revision will be extensive: shorten the nose, remove the hump, straighten the septum. How long will the rehabilitation take? In terms of when the bruises will completely disappear, a little swelling is fine. I want to return to work looking normal, not as if I've just been beaten up in a back alley. Will a month be enough? Has anyone had a similar operation? How was it for you?

I had it done while on holiday, but after 2 weeks I could definitely return to work. The main swelling had subsided, but the general, invisible kind, might last a couple of months - it doesn't mean that your face is puffy, it's just that after some time the features become somewhat more defined.

Everyone has different timelines, swelling subsides in about 2 weeks on average, as far as I've read. But there's also such a thing as scars.. after the operation itself, I had to undergo a course of collagen injections to make my nose perfect and so that no mini-scars were visible.

If you have a rhino done, as I did in Germany, there will be no scars at all, they perform a closed rhino there using an endoscope (endoscopic rhinoplasty), the incision is made inside the nose, on the mucous membrane, this is what eliminates scars. And rehabilitation is individual for everyone.

Personally, I didn't have any bruises at all, and even with tampons inside, I wouldn't call my condition particularly uncomfortable. Simply despite having to breathe through my mouth, my throat didn't bother me at all and I didn't have a headache. Severe swelling only for the first week. Minor swelling, which may be noticeable to those who know you well, lasts for 2-4 weeks. I would recommend staying at home as long as possible, if you can take the full 28-day holiday. You'll be able to pop to the shop or run some errands about 2 weeks after the operation, but your face will look odd for about a month to a month and a half. I don't know how to explain it, but there will be a slight puffiness 😂 and your smile will fully recover in about 2 months - this takes the longest to return to normal, don't be scared. Although if you're not planning to hide the operation, none of this matters. The final result may be as long as 6 months. If your skin is thick, it may take longer, up to a year and a half, but even before the final result everything looks much better than the original.

Everyone's different. It all depends, not even on the doctor, but on the youth of the patient, their overall health, and even their age, it's better to have rhinoplasty before 32-35 years old. After that, healing is worse, and anaesthesia is also a serious matter. I had it at 38, everything was fine. Operations usually go well when you need to tweak something a little, when the nose is healthy, and the cartilage is a bit wide, or there's a small bump, but if the nose is broken, the cartilage is looking sideways, and there are also polyps and cysts? Here already, a good doctor, will be repelled to at least somehow correct the situation! There's also thick skin, here too, unfortunately, you won't wait for a graceful nose! And also when a very serious nose reconstruction, and internal scars remain, and you'll have to go to physiotherapy. Everyone has their own surgery story, and their own nose. And it won't be the same for everyone.
